popular myths about IV wellness therapy

You may have noticed that IV wellness therapy has become one of those treatments that everyone’s talking about or even been talking about it yourself, and honestly, I’m not surprised! As a nurse practitioner treating patients with IV wellness therapy, whether it’s for hydration, an immune boost, or just a general pick-me-up, it’s a brilliant way to support your body from the inside out.

But with popularity comes plenty of myths, and I often find myself answering the same questions during consultations. So, let's clear a few things up. Here are some of the most common misconceptions I hear about IV therapy and the truth behind them.

Myth 1: "IV Therapy Is Only for the Sick or Hospitalised"

This one pops up all the time. While IV therapy did start out in medical settings, it’s now used by people who simply want to feel their best. You don’t need to be unwell to benefit; it’s ideal for boosting your energy levels, improving your skin, and even supporting your all-important immune system.

Think of it as a wellness boost rather than a medical necessity. Most of my patients come in because they want to feel refreshed, hydrated, and balanced, not because something’s wrong necessarily.

Myth 2: "IV Therapy Is Painful"

I completely understand that the idea of a needle can sound a bit intimidating at first, but in reality, it’s a small, quick prick to get the cannula in, and then you can sit back and relax. The treatment itself is completely comfortable. Even my patients who are needle phobes end up relaxing!

Literally, many people read, scroll on their phones, or even have a nap while their infusion works its power. It’s far more relaxing than people expect, believe it or not!

Myth 3: "Oral Supplements Are Just as Good"

I’m all for supplements, but when you take them orally, a lot of the nutrients are unfortunately lost through digestion. With IV therapy, the vitamins and minerals go straight into your bloodstream, which means your body absorbs almost all of them.

It’s especially helpful if you’ve got absorption issues, or if you just want that extra kick of hydration and energy that tablets can’t quite match.

Myth 4: "IV Therapy Is Only for Celebrities"

It’s true that celebrities helped make IV therapy popular, but it’s not some exclusive “A-lister” treatment anymore. You've probably seen it in scenes from The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills or other reality shows (especially based in Los Angeles!), but people from all walks of life are using IV drips to feel their best, from busy professionals to parents, athletes, and everyone in between!

At Flawless Medical Cosmetics, I tailor every IV drip to suit your individual goals and your lifestyle, whether that’s glowing skin before a big event, immune support during a busy month, or a much-needed energy lift. There's no right or wrong reason (or time) to experience the benefits of IV wellness; it's whenever you need an advanced wellness boost.

Myth 5: "IV Therapy Isn’t Safe"

When it’s done properly by a qualified medical professional (like me), IV therapy is completely safe. Every treatment at Flawless follows strict hygiene and safety standards, and I’ll always take the time to review your medical history before we start. A face-to-face consultation is the first step to decide if and which IV wellness therapy is best suited to your needs.

Know that your comfort and safety are the top priority, always.

Myth 6: "IV Therapy Is a Quick Fix or Permanent Cure"

While IV therapy does give you a noticeable boost, it’s not a miracle cure. It works best as part of a balanced, healthy lifestyle, so think of it as the extra support your body sometimes needs when life gets busy or stressful.

The benefits build over time, especially if you make it part of a regular wellness routine. For example, I have patients who come in to see me for an NAD+ booster monthly for the best results – and they simply cannot wait to come back for their next round!

Myth 7: "IV Therapy Is Just for Hangovers"

It’s true, IV drips are fantastic for hangovers because they help to rehydrate and replace lost nutrients, but that’s really just one of their many benefits.

IV therapy can help improve your skin, support your immune system, aid recovery after exercise, and reduce fatigue. It’s an incredibly versatile treatment that can be adapted to what your body needs most. That's what makes it so fantastic, and why I love offering it in my clinic.

Final Thoughts

IV wellness therapy isn’t a fad; it’s a simple, effective way to support your body from within. It's important to find the right clinic and practitioner who understands how to personalise treatment safely and effectively.
